First Presbyterian Church Mission Support/Giving StatementThe vision for First Presbyterian Church’s Mission committee is to provide new ideas, direction and recommendations to our Session and congregation on where First Presbyterian Church should provide mission outreach through local, national and global organizations via our time, talents, and monetary gifts. The Mission committee will help organize and energize our congregation in carrying out the work of Christ in the world. Criteria or Parameters for Mission Support/Giving: The Mission committee members will use the following parameters/criteria in the decision-making process regarding financial support to an organization.
Pastor Kirk Morledge on USNS Mercy -- Pacific Partnership 2010 (Medical Mission) Our own Pastor Kirk Morledge, US Navy Reserve Chaplain, was deployed on May 8, 2010, aboard the USNS Mercy, a hospital ship, for the medical mission Pacific Partnership 2010. For the next several months, the ship will be visiting various Pacific Rim countries, providing medical care to people who ordinarily do not have access to such care. Pastor Kirk joins this mission not just as his active deployment, but as an extension of FPC Missions. To read more about what he's doing, check out these links: Pacific Partnership Official Blog Article from the May 2010 isse of The Connector Pastor Kirk's Update from the June 2010 issue of The Connector Monthly Mission Outreach! The Mission committee would like to invite you to support and participate in our Monthly Mission Outreach Program. In an effort to highlight mission needs in our surrounding area and to provide our church family with the opportunity to respond to those needs, we are putting a mission need in the spotlight each month. The need and organization will vary each month. The items we will be requesting will be varied as well. Some examples may be a food item, a tube of toothpaste, a jar of baby food, a box of crayons, or a pair of socks. The Mission Committee will have a designated place at church for you to drop off the items each month. If you have any ideas for a mission outreach, please all the church office at (608)849-4625 in order to pass these ideas on to Tryg Knutson, Mission Elder. This program is in addition to our cooking and serving meals at the homeless shelter at Grace Episcopal Church in Madison every fourth Thursday of each month, and our participation in the Meals on Wheels program in Waunakee.
