Sometimes life can be horribly frustrating and painful. We go through terrible hurts or illnesses or watch our loved ones do that. The world itself seems to be coming apart at the scenes. I remember Peter writing in 1 Peter 4; “Dear friends, don't be surprised at the fiery trials you are going through, as if something strange were happening to you.”
It seems to be the way of the world. Well if that is so, what are we doing here? What is it all about? From first to last the answer to that question is LOVE.
God’s love for us, our love for God gives meaning and purpose to our lives. Passing God’s love on to others (our neighbors) makes our life fulfilling.
We see it in the Westminster catechism as the chief purpose in life:
“The chief end of man (kind) is to love God and enjoy him forever.”
We see it in Scriptures
Jesus told his followers the greatest commandments were to Love God and Love your neighbor as yourself.
Amy Grant sings this…
In a little while we’ll be with the Father, can’t you see Him smile.
In a little while we’ll be home forever, in a while.
We’re just here to learn to love Him. We’ll be home in just a little while.
We’re just here to learn to love Him. And we will be home all too soon. Grab ahold of God’s love today, and don’ evert let go. I know God won’t.
